Building Community Resilience
Preparing, connecting, and sharing information now will help us respond more effectively when emergencies strike.
In recent years, we’ve faced one challenge after another—some sudden, others long-standing but growing in urgency. These include:
- More frequent heat alerts
- Rising days with poor air quality due to wildfires
- Persistent risk of a major earthquake
- Ongoing threats to communities of color
- The slow pace of closing the digital divide, especially as health care and essential services shift online
- We’re building on the knowledge and materials we’ve developed while bringing in new staff and resources. At the heart of our work are peer-to-peer networks that empower neighbors to create and carry out preparedness plans tailored to their specific communities.
Emergency Preparedness Flyers
Emergencies can happen anytime. Preparation can save lives.
That’s why our team redesigned the Emergency Preparedness for Seniors & People with Disabilities flyer to be more accessible and user-friendly. It’s now available in four languages: English, Spanish, Cantonese, Russian, and Tagalog.
What’s inside:
- Planning Ahead: Steps to get ready now
- The 72-Hour Rule: What to include in your emergency kit
- Evacuation Planning: Create a plan that meets your needs
- Earthquake Safety: What to do before, during, and after
- Vial of Life: Why accessible medical info matters
- Smoke & Heat: How to protect yourself in extreme conditions

Are You Prepared?
Plan Ahead
When disaster hits, community matters. Being prepared starts with small acts—greeting neighbors, chatting with your local grocer, and staying in touch with loved ones both online and offline. Visit SF72 for tips and start creating your own plan.
