A true piece of art is concerned not only with technique but also and more importantly with self-expression. In this class, we will emphasize individual creativity. The participants will explore their personal world in order to create a body of work that is unique. During class, we will also cover all technical aspects of drawing and painting that may arise. These may include:

– Basic concepts of perspective, shadowing, light to dark tones, composition
– Basic pencil techniques
– Drawing still life
– Watercolor: materials and techniques
– Acrylic: materials and techniques

Bring samples of artwork you have done before!

Materials List:  Colored pencils, Pencil sharpener, Cotton balls, Paper
Optional Materials: Watercolor paint, Acrylic paint, Brushes, Rag (a piece of cloth), Watercolor paper, Canvas

About the Teacher: Santiago Gervasi holds a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and an MFA from the California College of Arts and Crafts. He has shown his artwork both nationally and abroad. Santiago has been teaching art for almost two decades and has concentrated during the last decade on teaching art in senior communities throughout the Bay Area.
