ENGLISH:
To honor Juneteenth, CLC and Olivia Franco are hosting this special event about Yanga’s history. From Olivia, “On my recent trip to Veracruz, Mexico I met Mr. Antonio Carrera Perez, who spent time showing me Yanga and its history. Señor Carrera works at the Yanga Cultural Center and has done extensive research to finish his Yanga book, In a Cry for Freedom. In this presentation we will show the life of the maroons and their cultures in foods and rituals. From what I learned, Yanga has an extensive history that has not been defined because nobody at the time wrote anything down – new information is found all the time. We are getting to know Yanga’s history better.”
