Let’s Make Stuff with d’Arci: Cloth-The Fabric of Our Lives (Virtual)
June 22 @ 11:15 am - 12:15 pm
Fabric can be defined as actual cloth, or as the basic framework of something more abstract such as family, reality, or even the universe, in that a piece of fabric has many interwoven threads and if something is part of the fabric it means that it is an integral part of the material as a whole. It is also said that the clothes make the man/woman. Through an academic lens, the sporting of various grades of cloth and clothing fashions are seen as a form of wearable language, often pointing at metaphorical meanings that define who we are or how we are perceived by others. Whew…that is some deep thinking stuff!
But really, actual cloth/fabric can seem REALLY DIFFICULT to draw or paint, so let’s grab this fascinating subject by the sleeve and take an in-depth look at various artistic styles of fabric and clothing representation through the ages and get some basic tips and tricks to help us turn our humble scratchings into finely rendered cloth.
