Writing Through Reading (Virtual)
October 8 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm
“Writing through Reading” is a class developed around the idea that as writers we are inspired through reading. We will closely read and discuss the work of several writers, both prose and poetry and read/write in between classes, prompted by our discussion. This group will ask that you share your thoughts and ideas about the work and will occasionally invest time in people sharing their own work prompted by our reading. It is not a workshop, but I hope the reading will inspire writing in your life by noticing techniques and ideas of interest and celebrate the art of reading. Time for reading work in between classes is required. All levels of experience are welcome. Each class will be thematic by genre, such as Journaling & The Day Book/The Epistolary/The Memoir/Social-Political/The Essay/The Image/The Experimental Work. Some writers we will read: Mary Oliver, Emily Dickinson, Bernadette Mayer, Jamaica Kincaid, Tongo Eisen-Martin, Rita Dove, Bob Kaufman, JoAnn Kyger, Margaret Randall, Gloria Frym, Peggy Shumaker, Robert Creeley, Hoa Nguyen, Genny Lim, and more.
