Mary Twomey Delivers Empowering Message at Aging and Disability Technology Summit

May 22, 2012 by Marie Jobling

Mary  Twomey stepped up at the Aging and Disability Technology  Summit to delivering a message about empowerment and cyber safety in a unique way – as a savvy cyber rapper.  When Mary is not rappin’, she is the Co-Director of the National Center on Elder Abuse at the Center of Excellence on Elder Abuse and Neglect at UC Irvine.

Don’t worry if you missed her, you can see her on SFGovTV2 along with other presentations.   The morning session is scheduled to air on SFGovTV2 (Comcast Channel on Wednesday 5/23 @ 1pm and 5pm.   Mary’s rap is also now on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rygOJvSPvcE

Or just step in front of a mirror and try it yourself  – here are the words!

I want to stay connected

There’s a big ole world out there

Twitter, Facebook, You Tube

E-mails flying through the air

I may be over 60, but I love those mp3s

I’m a savvy cyber user

Come on and FaceTime me

I read the paper on my iPad
And I surf the net for free

My favorite cyber café is the public library

I write to all my homies up in Sacto and DC

No stamps, no paper, but they know the addressee

I’m a savvy cyber user

I’m great with advocacy.

Got an email from Nigeria

I won a million bucks

I may have a disability, but I’m not a sitting duck

The email says a check will come, it will be just for me

Next they’ll be asking for my password and I.D.

But I’m a savvy cyber user so I

Press delete.
