Each year, our Good Neighbor Awards honor some of the dedicated neighbors. They volunteer their time to help seniors and people with disabilities get the resources and support they need to age and thrive in their own homes and neighborhoods. We are delighted to honor Steve as our 2020 Good Neighbor Honoree for Merced Extension Triangle.
Steve Heide was a founding member of our Merced Extension Triangle program. He went door to door with flyers encouraging older adults to join the program.
Steve cares deeply for isolated adults, particularly gay seniors. He recognized the challenges and works in his community and the broader city to make connections with them.
If you drive through the community, you will see Steve cleaning off graffiti. In addition, he picks up litter despite his chronic neuropathy.
You’ll also find him holding his Black Lives Matter sign at the weekly Vigil of Justice.
