Vision & Hearing Initiative
We want to help older adults and adults with disabilities have access to the internet, computers, tablets, and phones they need to keep in contact with their family, friends, and healthcare professionals.
Living with hearing and vision loss can make it more difficult to remain connected, reducing access to healthcare and supportive services, and further limiting job opportunities for older adults. Funded through a grant from the United Way of the Bay Area Francis Goldsmith Fund, Our Vision and Hearing Initiative provides:
- Training on using helpful technology
- Information and education about tools that can assist
- Tips for good communication
- Access to affordable devices for hearing and vision loss
- Neighborhood outreach for hearing tests and other services
Accessible Technology Training
We provide participants with accessible computer training to strengthen and support their online social networks and access to information. Our technology and online tech support assist more than 300 students who have trouble seeing and/or hearing. We also provide about $6,000 worth of helpful tools for low-income older people in Adult Day Health Centers.
Accessible Meetings and Events
We train all our staff to serve as Ambassadors, working to increase inclusion and accessibility throughout our programs and beyond. If you’d like information or assistance, contact Jennifer Walsh, our Inclusion & Accessibility Lead, at jennifer@sfcommunityliving.org.
